Meet Rex Soderlund

Rex Soderlund is a Science Communicator and MSP3 Graduate from USF Morsani College of Medicine, with a passion for bridging global healthcare gaps and advancing medical science through community engagement. As a future Uniformed Services Physician, he's committed to delivering quality care to underserved populations—a mission that drew him to partner with the Liger Initiative in Uganda.

Beyond the clinic, Rex is an active educator, working one-on-one with students across high school, undergraduate, and pre-med levels in science, math, and health sciences. He explores the intersection of science, philosophy, and human-centered healthcare through co-writing the Liger newsletters and publishing RXMD, a publication examining how science is argued for, defended, and misrepresented in public discourse—focusing on the rhetoric and epistemology that scientists rarely discuss but urgently need to understand. His work in Uganda reflects a deeper belief that rigorous science, clear communication, and genuine philanthropy can work together to solve real problems.

When not communicating science, tutoring, or supporting healthcare initiatives, you'll find Rex thinking about philosophy of science, how systems fail communities, and what it takes to build sustainable change.

Meet Wefwafwa Andrew

Andrew Wefwafwa is a Medical Clinical Officer with a Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Community Health. For the past four years, he's been serving his community directly, providing medical care and building meaningful relationships with his patients.

Driven by a profound gap in healthcare access—Uganda faces a severe shortage of medical doctors—Andrew is committed to increasing medical services in his community rather than pursuing opportunities in larger cities. This dedication led him to enroll in medical school, where he's pursuing a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree. The five-year program will be followed by a one-year internship before he becomes a fully qualified medical officer.

Andrew documents his journey and community work through his YouTube channel, Andrew Wefwafwa Medical Videos. With the support of his benefactor Mr. Sean Roberti, who is funding his tuition and providing housing assistance, Andrew is able to focus fully on his studies while continuing to serve those around him.

His vision extends beyond personal achievement: he aims to expand his medical knowledge to support organizational growth and eventually establish a larger medical facility in his village, bringing sustainable healthcare to his people.

The Liger

How does it work?

The Liger Subscription funds are held separately and only released when a specific medical infrastructure project is finalized and ready to deploy. Examples: building a clinic, upgrading equipment, and buying bulk medical supplies.

Wefwafwa does not receive money until he has a fully finalized project to fund—at which point, RXMD releases the funds to the Buwanga Way to Health Foundation.

Medical Grade Microscope for Malaria Screening

Context

The first project was centered around World Malaria Day on April 25, 2023. Wefwafwa and Rex co-hosted a fundraiser and malaria awareness event at Saint Leo University, where Rex hosted in-person, and Wefwafwa attended virtually. The event brought more than 100 people together, and a GoFundMe raised $1000. Rex and Wefwafwa co-produced a 10-minute short film to showcase Wefwafwa’s clinical work and mission for students, alumni, and faculty at Saint Leo University,

Fundraiser Goal

$500

Context

Our second project celebrated the success of The Liger newsletter launched on Substack in September, 2023. The newsletter raised $500 through paid subscriptions; thanks to generous donors and Substack subscribers. In December, 2025: Eastern Uganda was facing hotter than normal temperatures, and experiencing reduced rainfall. This prompted a need for an industrial sprinkler system to irrigate the surrounding fields where banana and coffee plants were planted.
